Case description
A middle-aged woman given the pseudonym Ruth Brown reported an encounter near her Whidbey Island home on an unspecified October morning in 1963. Marvin W. Smith investigated through correspondence, telephone calls and a visit, and the account appeared in Flying Saucer Review in 1964. Around 9 a.m., she allegedly saw a small grey object hovering roughly five feet above the lawn, with three figures visible through its transparent front.
One figure was suddenly standing outside without a visible door-opening sequence. It wore coarse, asbestos-textured coveralls that concealed its face, hands and feet. In the fuller narrative it walked around the house while the craft followed slowly. When Brown asked what the visitors wanted, the figure reportedly consulted its companions and replied in English that one of them knew her and that they would return.
She then described the craft shrinking, tilting until its rear appeared partly within the ground, regaining its previous size and departing eastward with vapour, a flash and noise. Those extraordinary changes are reported observations, not demonstrated material transformations. A separate sighting she dated to July is background to her account, not another witness to October. The plate depicts the interaction phase, with one covered figure outside and two inside, leaving the later size-change sequence in the narrative.
