Case description
The HUMCAT entry for Cofico records a brief observation attributed to Chafredo Dagota in September 1964. At about 21:00, he reportedly saw a circular, saucerlike object touch down nearby. It appeared to rest on a pillar or pedestal and emitted a blinding light. Beside it he caught an indistinct glimpse of two figures moving about.
Those are essentially the whole reported encounter details. The source does not describe the figures’ faces, clothing, size, conversation, or movements beyond that blurred glimpse. It also supplies no detailed craft construction, duration, recovered material, or documented trace examination. The imported summary’s three silhouettes differs from the two recorded in HUMCAT and Vallée’s catalogue; the plate follows the earlier, explicit count of two.
The date and assessment also vary. HUMCAT gives September 5, but its correction notes Roberto Banchs’s September 6 date and an El Tribuno report of September 7. Banchs and Richard Heiden later placed Cofico among their “negative” control cases, selected for low assessed reliability. That statistical classification is not itself proof of a confessed hoax. The reconstruction uses September 1964 and keeps the two forms obscured by glare, preserving the account’s limited detail and contested standing.
