Norwich entity encounter — May 1943
Norwich, United Kingdom

Case description
The NICAP database gives only May 1943, Norwich, a domed object and humanoid beings, citing an AFU bibliographic reference. A potentially related account is RAF serviceman John Warren’s reported encounter near Ludham, outside Norwich, in the same month. Philip Mantle later interviewed Warren, who said he had been walking back to his airbase after missing transport home from a village dance.
Near the roadside he reportedly saw a stationary man wearing an unusual diving-type helmet. An oblong object on the figure’s chest cast green light upward onto a face fixed in a grin. Behind a hedge or fence, Warren described a bell-tent-shaped object in a field, with two additional figures wearing white coveralls moving nearby. Frightened, he walked past without looking back. The roadside figure did not speak or acknowledge him, and no boarding was described.
Mantle’s published account dates his interview to 1987 and says Warren had previously reported the experience in 1966. The gap from 1943 is therefore material. Warren also mentioned a frightened colleague who may have seen something similar, but no detailed independent statement accompanies that claim. The correspondence connecting this specific account to NICAP’s brief Norwich line has not been established here. The Atlas presents the fuller Warren story as a provisional match, while retaining the original catalogue label and the uncertainty.
