Case description
The alleged February 21, 1965 encounter at Chalac, Argentina, originated in newspaper and news-agency stories rather than a securely identified village investigation. The tale described a Qom or Toba community, police among the observers and several discs overhead. One aluminium-coloured object supposedly landed and released three halo-like luminous figures. In one version they were tall and indicated peaceful intentions before returning to the craft; other catalogues describe small beings instead. Claims that photographs were taken have not produced authenticated images.
Later Argentine investigator Roberto Banchs examined the story's geography and source chain. Researchers could not locate Chalac on regional maps or through knowledgeable local contacts. A formal inquiry to the National Institute of Anthropology in 1985 likewise failed to establish the settlement in its consulted cartography and bibliography. A superficially similar Indigenous place-word did not identify an actual site for the alleged landing.
The case was consequently judged spurious or a probable newspaper invention by later researchers, including Ballester Olmos. That conclusion should be stated as a source assessment, without inventing a perpetrator's confession. The named ufologist in later retellings is not a verified eyewitness. The plate illustrates the tall-figure version with a prominent disputed-story label; the settlement, crowd and disc are visual interpretations of an unverified tale, and no ceremonial behaviour or stereotyped religious response is presented as established fact.
