Case description

The Monte Grande entry derives from the contested contactee claims of Felipe Martínez, a thirty-seven-year-old Argentine shopkeeper. In the April 1965 episode, he said he encountered a large, silent, egg-shaped object hovering above open ground, surrounded by a rapidly rotating rim. He approached calling out in friendship, but suddenly felt unable to move. A small helmeted figure, around one meter tall, reportedly descended a narrow ladder. Its clothing resembled a diving suit, with cables connecting the helmet to the craft. Vallée’s catalogue gives three cables, while Creighton’s longer account gives two. Martínez said the visitor spoke Spanish slowly and with difficulty, called the machine a sil, claimed to come from near the Moon and promised another meeting. The wider story expanded into repeated encounters, an alleged onboard visit and a prediction of worldwide intervention on December 3, 1965. Those later claims should not be folded into the April scene. Contemporary newspaper coverage and subsequent ufological retellings preserve Martínez’s assertions, but no physical corroboration is established in the consulted dossier. Its source comparison treats the narrative as a contactee invention; that assessment and the inconsistent details remain material parts of the record.
