An August 1965 newspaper account said that a railway worker named João do Rio encountered a small visitor while fishing beside the Paraíba River at Cruzeiro, São Paulo. Gordon Creighton reproduced the story in his survey of Latin American humanoid reports. Publication dates and later catalogues variously suggest August 12, 13 or 14; the surviving retellings do not justify selecting one as a secure event date.
A saucer reportedly landed nearby, and a figure about seventy centimetres tall emerged. Its most distinctive described feature was a pair of large luminous eyes. Speaking fluent Portuguese, it allegedly said that it came from another world and gave the fisherman a piece of supposedly unusual metal. It reportedly authorized him to tell others about the encounter before returning to the object.
Newspaper versions said that the metal would be examined at a railway-related laboratory. No documented analytical result accompanies the recovered source trail, so claims of an extraterrestrial composition remain unsupported. Creighton also questioned whether the witness's name was genuine, but a suspicious name alone does not establish fabrication. Later retellings relocate the case to Santa Catarina, contrary to the earlier São Paulo location. The plate follows the fishing scene, small figure and offered fragment while treating the suit, facial details and saucer dimensions as illustrative.
