Case description
On the night of August 16, 1965, a woman identified as Miss D. S. drove from her home on the northwest edge of Sedalia, Missouri, to a nearby drugstore. Returning home, she noticed a figure in a roadside ditch, apparently picking things up. The figure turned toward her; she also recalled an unusual light in the adjoining field and shapes she initially interpreted as large birds.
She drove home frightened and confused. Her husband questioned why she had been away so long: the fuller retelling places her arrival at about 12:25 a.m., leaving roughly eighty minutes she could not explain. Accounts differ over the total missing interval.
Years later, during an investigation associated with Jerome Clark and hypnotist Ron Owen, she described the intervening events under hypnosis. She said suited figures had been collecting soil, grass and stones; her car stopped, and a light left her unable to move. She recalled a luminous, football-shaped object, additional occupants, being carried inside and placed on a table for an examination. These later recollections are distinct from the roadside images and arrival home she remembered consciously.
