Case description
Tourists visiting the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuamán, near Cuzco, reportedly saw a small silvery disc on August 20, 1965, around midday. Ufological accounts name engineer Alberto Ugarte, his wife and another man whose name appears in several inconsistent spellings, including Elwin Vogter or Voter. Gordon Creighton traced the story to South American newspapers, including La Prensa of Lima on August 23. An Agence France-Presse brief was reproduced in the French newspaper Le Méridional the next day.
The object was said to have landed on a terrace of the ruins and to measure only about 1.5 metres across. Two very small beings emerged. When they apparently noticed the people nearby, they returned to the disc, which was reported to depart rapidly toward the west. There is no preserved conversation or approach by the tourists.
The beings’ appearance changes in transmission. The newspaper brief described glowing eyes and vertical mouths, whereas later accounts described the whole figures as dazzlingly luminous or of a strange shape. Those are materially different descriptions, not mutually verifying observations. The plate preserves the reported small scale and the unusual vertical-mouth detail without adding familiar modern alien anatomy.
The story rests on press-derived reports and subsequent compilations. A detailed first-hand investigation, reliable measurements and approved witness drawings have not been recovered in the reviewed sources. The ruined terrace, tourists’ likenesses and the craft’s unspecified surface details remain illustrative.
