Case description
Three adult women on a hill at Mäkylä, in the Espoo district west of Helsinki, reportedly watched an unusual object at 8:20 p.m. on August 31, 1965. A. Mauritz Hietamäki’s article in Awareness gives the time and observer details missing from several later catalogue summaries. The sun had just set and the light was fading.
The object passed slightly above nearby treetops and resembled two washbasins joined at their rims. Its apparent diameter was about twenty feet. It looked grey in the twilight, with a translucent upper section, a yellow light midway along its side and a white light at the rear. No sound was heard. The women could see something moving within the translucent portion but could not determine what it was.
That final limitation is important: later summaries describe a vague humanoid, while the published article does not identify the movement as a person or resolve any body features. The Atlas retains the occupant-related catalogue association while making the original uncertainty explicit. The report describes a passing object rather than a witnessed landing, and supplies no communication, exterior figure, physical trace or subsequent encounter involving these witnesses.
