Two motorists near Arequipa reportedly encountered an approximately eighty-centimetre being beside the Pan-American road in 1965. Later accounts name them Julio L. de Romana and Antonio Chavez Bedoya and say their car nearly struck it. The figure was particularly unusual: one large central eye and a body described in one version as covered with gold and silver stripes. A craft passed above the car shortly afterward.
The source history contains a substantial date and appearance conflict. Peruvian press material already reported the episode by 31 August, describing a dark, shrub-like form with one golden eye on its head and smaller eye-like features along its body. Creighton and Magonia later place a striped, single-eyed figure on 29 September. These similarities suggest a catalogue variant, but the later date cannot be assumed correct when an earlier publication already describes the encounter.
Creighton’s source trail refers to La Prensa, a Peruvian landing list sent by Donald Hanlon and an alleged police file. The accessible comparison does not supply that police investigation. Other people reportedly saw a low object some twenty kilometres away; this does not independently identify the roadside figure or prove it boarded the craft. The plate explicitly follows the September catalogue’s striped version, uses year-level dating and labels the craft-and-being composition as successive observations.
