Case description
Late on November 29, 1965, Kevin Davis and Gary Jardine reportedly watched an unusual object near Springhill, Nova Scotia. The account reproduced from NICAP’s Strange Effects from UFOs, citing The Springhill Record, describes a craft with portholes, a blinking red dome, a humming noise and an exhaust-like emission. The imported chronology gives about 10 p.m.; the recovered prose establishes only late evening.
A long bar-like component emerged from the largest opening, withdrew, then extended again. Smoke-like material followed, with sparks rising above the object. Snow was reportedly blown about and nearby bushes flattened. These details explain why later catalogues emphasized a mechanical arm and possible sampling apparatus, although the recovered passage does not demonstrate that anything was collected.
No walking robot or visible pilot is described in this account. The reported mechanism should therefore remain a component of the craft rather than become an invented alien occupant. A separate observation by seaman Ian Kinsey at Cornwallis early the next morning involved different objects and a different witness; it is historical context, not another viewpoint of the Springhill scene. The plate shows the two young observers and extending mechanism.
