Case description
A brief story attributed to Arthur Shuttlewood’s Warminster Mystery describes an anomalous road vehicle in the Cotswold Hills during December 1965. A vehicle resembling a Land Rover reportedly passed a car without displaying lights and then disappeared in a puff of smoke. The Atlas preserves no named observer, exact road, duration or measured distance for the episode.
A later historical chronology adds that the Land Rover-like vehicle appeared to lack wheels and places it around midnight. That source assigns a mid-month date, but the underlying Atlas record gives only December; the additional precision is not treated here as independently established. No recovered account identifies a driver, passenger or other entity inside the passing vehicle. Its unusual behaviour, rather than a description of an alien occupant, is the core claim.
The original cited book passage was not recovered in the accessible source search, so the fuller chronology is identified as a later retelling. This record remains a reported phantom-vehicle episode within the broader catalogue, rather than being expanded into an encounter with a conventional saucer or invented beings. The plate shows the witness’s ordinary car and the unlit Land Rover-like form before disappearance. Its wheel-less appearance follows the later version, while the road layout, weather and witness appearance are explicitly contextual.
