Case description
Charles Bowen discussed the Chaclacayo reports in Flying Saucer Review in May–June 1968, drawing on earlier newspaper accounts. He dates the disturbance to the evening of 5 July 1966 in the town east of Lima; HUMCAT later supplies approximately 21:00. A woman and young people reportedly watched a strange being no more than 1.5 metres tall walking quietly along the streets and leaving a luminous track. No spacecraft is described.
Some children ran away, while others remained and thought the figure seemed curious and wanted to talk. It then moved quickly to another part of town, where 18-year-old Antonieta Chirinos and two accompanying children reportedly saw it approach and examine them closely. A boy, Gonzalo Villavicencio, also saw the figure from his balcony. When he shouted to ask what it wanted, it reportedly hurried away and disappeared from sight. These successive observations should not be collapsed into one crowd or one continuous, independently verified pursuit.
Bowen questioned how the witnesses could know the figure was extraterrestrial and emphasized the limited detail in such reports. He mentioned René Fouéré's suggestion of an ionization effect for the trail, but offered no physical measurement establishing that explanation. Faces, clothing, exact route and the trail's composition remain undescribed. The reconstruction depicts Chirinos's group with an indistinct, plainly covered figure; it neither invents a craft nor treats the reported luminous track as a scientifically analysed ground trace.
