Near Erie, PA being encounter — August 3, 1966

At about 5:30 a.m. on August 3, 1966, Julie Helwig was awakened by barking dogs at her home in Erie, Pennsylvania. Looking outside, she reported a human-shaped figure approximately five feet six inches tall. It wore a yellow jacket and trousers without visible pockets or other ordinary tailoring details. Its very large, moon-shaped head appeared flat at the back when seen in profile. Helwig described an unusually broad-shouldered but slender body. The figure walked with a stiff, mechanical motion, neither bending its knees nor swinging its arms, and continued until it passed from her view. The catalogue places this beside police observations of an aerial object over the Lake Erie area, but the woman did not report watching her visitor leave or enter a craft. The human-figure account is attributed to John Keel in the HUMCAT source chain. It should also remain distinct from the better-known July 31 Presque Isle incident. No facial anatomy, communication or recovered object is established here. The plate follows the yellow two-piece suit and flattened head description, while explicitly identifying its lake-light background as a separate observation.
