Case description
On March 20, 1967, a father identified confidentially as Mr R. and his daughter drove near Butler, Pennsylvania, looking for low-flying lights previously reported by his wife. The HUMCAT file places the encounter around 10:45 p.m., slightly earlier than the Atlas time. They reportedly watched two yellow-white globes descend toward the road ahead.
The lights approached rapidly and vanished about 50 yards from their car. Only then did the headlights reveal five expressionless, human-shaped figures in the roadway, forcing the driver to swerve. They wore loose grey-green shirts and trousers and caps with blond hair visible beneath. The description includes narrow eyes and mouths, pointed noses and rough, scar-like skin. The shortest figure had shoulder-length hair. The daughter also reported hearing an instruction not to move, experienced as voices in her head.
Members of the Pittsburgh UFO Research Institute investigated; HUMCAT cites R. A. Schmidt’s article in Flying Saucer Review, volume 14, number 5. The lights and figures belong to successive phases, and no solid vehicle is described. The plate labels that sequence rather than implying the five figures were seen standing beside a landed craft. The reported mental communication is a witness experience, not an independently recorded message.
