Case description
Carlo Cammarata reported an encounter on a terrace at San Cataldo, Sicily, around 8 p.m. on 4 April 1967 during light rain. A large metallic disc was said to hover approximately five or six metres above the terrace. Three human-looking men in close-fitting silver clothing were nearby. Expanded accounts describe green belts or green lights, with one version placing emitted light near the chest.
The strangers appeared interested in caged birds on the terrace, examining them closely. Cammarata said he was unable to move while watching. One man made an awkward hand gesture toward him. The three then reportedly returned to an opening in the disc’s underside by ascending within a luminous beam, compared to climbing an invisible ladder. The object departed rapidly. The account describes no visible staircase and provides no basis for replacing the men with large-headed grey beings.
The case appears in Italian encounter catalogues and later Rosales and Pinotti summaries, but dimensions differ substantially: the Hatch entry gives thirty metres, whereas another summary gives eighty. These estimates should remain attributed rather than treated as measured dimensions. The plate combines the witness, three silver-clothed humanlike figures, bird cages and hovering disc during the inspection phase, leaving the later ascent to the narrative.
