Case description
A short report in the Winter 1977 issue of Awareness places this encounter at Bovingdon, Hertfordshire, on a bright night around June 24, 1967. Jenny Randles is credited with investigating it. The witness was an unnamed man walking alone along a bridle path; the imported catalogue’s approximate 10 p.m. time is more precise than the recovered magazine paragraph.
Beside the path he encountered a short figure bending towards the ground. It appeared to wear a black, leather-like one-piece suit and to hold a trowel-shaped implement. The witness interpreted its movements as digging in the soil. When he approached, the figure made a strange high-pitched sound.
The published paragraph ends there. It does not establish the figure’s face, skin colour, precise height, subsequent departure or the contents of any supposed soil sample. Nor does it describe a vehicle, light beam, conversation or transport of the witness. A catalogue sampling tag reflects the digging interpretation rather than a recovered extraterrestrial specimen.
This is a retrospective report published about a decade after the claimed encounter. The illustration keeps its limited, distinctive elements—a lone walker, short dark-suited figure and trowel-like object—without inventing an accompanying craft or a detailed alien species.
