Case description
The Roanne account is dated only to summer 1967, around 23:00. According to Figuet and Ruchon's later narrative, Lucien Duplaix, a 49-year-old arsenal administrator, got up to fetch medicine for his unwell wife. He heard heavy, dragging footsteps outside near rue Saint-Exupéry. His daughter awoke and looked from her own window, where she thought she saw an indistinct stationary silhouette near the property's entrance gate.
The daughter said the shape vanished when she switched on her room light, then appeared farther away toward woods approximately one hundred metres distant. Duplaix spent several minutes calming her before inspecting the street himself. He saw no figure. Near the woods he noticed a dark object that he initially took for a parked car. Later, while returning the medicine to the kitchen, he briefly glimpsed a dark mass passing above neighboring roofs, with a slightly illuminated upper edge. He estimated five or six metres in length and forty or fifty metres altitude, but could not determine whether it was round or elongated.
These are different impressions at different moments. No one saw the silhouette enter or leave an object, and the connection among footsteps, gate figure, supposed car and airborne mass was not established. The reporting chain cites a later Lumières dans la Nuit article, with an imprecise event date and no photograph. The plate is therefore labeled as a composite of separate observations, while retaining the figure and object's indistinct character.
