Case description

On September 15, 1967, teenagers Caroll Luke and Ruth Passini watched an unusual light from an upstairs window in Winsted, Connecticut. The HUMCAT report gives approximately 8:45 p.m., rather than the imported 8:50. For about half an hour they observed a low, elliptical object, compared in size to a Volkswagen, changing from white to red and moving over nearby fields. Their mothers were alerted and also reportedly saw the aerial object. Sounds from a barn about fifty feet from the house included a puttering noise compared to a lawnmower. Two short figures emerged, moved towards the road and looked towards the Luke house, then towards the Passini house across the street. One figure appeared to have an unusually large head. When a car approached, the object's light went out. The figures retreated and were joined by a third before disappearing into darkness. Ted Thoben and Fred Ayer are listed among investigators, and contemporary Hartford Courant coverage and the Colorado Project are cited. Other aerial observations that week do not independently confirm the figures. The witnesses’ sequence combines an object and small beings in the same area; it does not describe boarding, a spoken exchange or a witnessed departure carrying occupants.

These Atlas records describe the same girls' episode. The film also surveys other Winsted encounters. Condon Case33 found discrepancies and no significant physical evidence; other lights do not independently establish the occupants or entire sequence.
