Case description
Leone Quick reportedly saw an unusual object while walking toward the South Downs near Storrington in November 1967. HUMCAT gives November 16 at approximately 5 p.m.; other summaries vary in day and time. She initially compared the distant shape to a steamroller. Using opera glasses, she said she could distinguish an upright gunmetal-gray ellipse approximately half to three-quarters of a mile away.
Her description included a trumpet-shaped projection on the left emitting bright whitish-yellow light and another extension on the right illuminated by a deep red glow. The object reportedly changed position abruptly before departing toward the sea. During the observation she noticed a dark figure, estimated at eight to ten feet tall, apparently gliding toward the object and disappearing suddenly. A passing woman also looked through the glasses; the synopsis does not establish a separate detailed description of the figure from her.
Omar Fowler investigated for the Surrey Investigations Group on Aerial Phenomena, and Bowen and Creighton discussed the reports in FSR 14(2). Earlier sightings associated with the Quick family are separate events and should not be merged with the figure episode. The considerable viewing distance and absence of facial detail limit any claim about the figure's identity. The plate retains the unusual vertical outline and projections, with an indistinct silhouette and a month-only title.
