Case description
The owner of the Lagoa Negra fazenda near Viamão, his wife, two children and the farm manager reportedly observed a reddish-lit object on a clear night in early January 1968. HUMCAT gives approximately 9 p.m. The disc was estimated at thirty feet wide and nine feet high, with a rounded hat-like dome. It hovered about six feet above the ground, some four hundred yards from the farmhouse.
Two roughly six-foot figures appeared beside it, wearing white coveralls with broad sashes. They had shoulder-length hair, bare feet and a stiff gait without obvious knee bending. Three shorter beings, below about four and a half feet, wore chestnut-brown coveralls and also had long hair. The shorter figures moved rapidly close to the object, while the taller pair advanced toward the yard, opening a gate and coming to within approximately thirty yards of the house.
When the wife called out in fright, the visitors reportedly returned to the object. All five entered and it rose vertically. The family's five dogs were described as unusually docile, and large and small footprints were said to have been found afterward. HUMCAT cites J. Pereira's 1971 Flying Saucer Review Case Histories article. A later summary gives 1958 instead, so the year conflict is retained rather than silently harmonized. No laboratory analysis of the claimed prints was recovered.
