Case description
On January 24, 1968, a motorist identified in published accounts as John E. reported seeing a saucer-shaped object above a pond near Indiana, Pennsylvania. The fuller summary places the sighting around 3:30 p.m., whereas the Atlas gives 5:30 p.m. He estimated that the object was about 100–200 feet away and described a dull aluminium surface with a transparent upper section.
Through that section he reportedly saw two ordinary-looking men in light-grey coveralls, with small lights and control levers visible nearby. Later hypnotic sessions introduced additional material: the impression that the men were repairing something, that they noticed him watching, and that a slender black-clad man led him aboard. The interior, elevator and immobilising chair descriptions belong to those subsequent sessions, rather than a straightforward expansion of the initial visual sighting.
The retelling credits William Weitzel and colleagues; the Atlas separately cites Brad Steiger and Joan Whritenour’s Flying Saucer Invasion. Reported missing time does not independently validate the hypnosis-derived narrative. The plate therefore uses the exterior pond observation, two human-looking occupants and motorist, while its caption distinguishes the later claims. It does not show procedures or present a detailed imagined cabin as evidence.
