Near Greensburg, PA being encounter — February 1968

One snowy night in February 1968, a recently married couple identified as Bob and Sue were in their home near Mutual, outside Greensburg, Pennsylvania. At about 11 p.m., Bob looked through the bedroom window to check road conditions and noticed a long gray projection close to the house. It was connected to a large dark-gray oval object hovering over their fishing pond. Sue joined him, then telephoned Bob's brother and sister-in-law. Bob estimated the object at fifty to sixty feet across and thirty feet above the pond. He described a domed top, three projecting probes, a bright open underside and a surrounding catwalk. One humanlike figure stood on the catwalk with hands near its eyes; another later joined it. Colored lights and moving shadows were visible behind apertures. By the time the relatives arrived, the figures were gone and the object was moving away. All four followed it by car and watched its brilliant light ascend, turn red and depart. Stan Gordon published the account in MUFON UFO Journal 210 in October 1985, about seventeen years afterward. The later arrivals corroborated a reported object phase, not the initial figures. Bob's impression that the craft looked old is subjective, and no detailed occupant anatomy or suit description should be added.
