Case description
Reports around Selah, near Yakima, Washington, covered approximately April 28 through May 6,1968, rather than a single securely dated event. Workers in a large apple orchard reportedly observed red and yellow lights above the trees, a sudden blue illumination of the landscape, and, on one night, a larger object releasing five smaller lights or objects in different directions.
During that period a sixteen-year-old orchard worker saw a light near a wooded area while driving. He said three small figures approached, humanlike but bald and dressed in shiny orange clothing. After he sounded his horn, two more appeared across the road. They reportedly came within roughly twenty-five feet before turning back. Another crew member arrived after hearing the horn and found the driver very distressed; this person did not independently see the entire approach.
The following morning, the orchard owner and others reported six paddle-shaped impressions, approximately eight inches long, and disturbed soil. A proposed plaster casting was apparently never made. The story reached APRO through the orchard owner, and the announced follow-up report has not been identified in the source comparison. HUMCAT preserves the close-encounter account, but the physical traces and relationship between the figures and earlier aerial lights remain unverified. The plate is explicitly a composite of the reporting period.
