Case description
This entry represents a cluster of reports from settlements near Chile's Atacama salt flats, rather than one securely dated encounter. A HUMCAT correction places them before June 26, 1968. It names Reine, Socaine, Toconas and Chiloporo, retaining the catalogue's spellings. Residents were said to have noticed a 'spaceship' over nearby salt flats on several occasions.
The object was reportedly associated with three strangely dressed beings. On at least several occasions, the beings were said to enter houses and take small items, alarming inhabitants. The surviving abstract gives no specific account of an individual house visit: it does not identify residents, describe dialogue, name the items, or supply detailed anatomy or vehicle construction. Those omissions prevent reconstruction of one exact encounter or an assumption that everyone saw the same event.
HUMCAT traces its entry through LDLN 117, April 1972, page 5, translating Petrovitsch's Little Chilean Catalogue, originally in UFO Chile. The cited Chilean newspaper is La Estrella del Norte of Antofagasta, June 26, 1968. That is a publication date, not a demonstrated observation date. The plate is therefore labeled a regional contextual illustration, bringing representative residents, three indeterminate clothed figures and a distant luminous object into one acknowledged composite.
