Case description
Fred Coulthard Jr., twenty-four, and his brother Wayne, twenty, were attending a family gathering near Wooler on July 2, 1968. Around 10–10:30 p.m., they reportedly saw an object with rotating red lights over a hill about three miles away. Accounts describe horses and cats becoming agitated before the lighted object departed with a flash.
Two carloads of men and boys subsequently went to investigate. During the search, Fred reportedly disturbed some bushes and saw a dark shape detach itself, hover above the ground and move toward the house. The fuller account does not provide an identifiable face, suit or detailed body structure. Later that night, around 11:30, the household allegedly experienced broken windows, objects being thrown and other disturbances. A rose-like smell and further effects were said to persist for days.
Mrs. W. Greystone's account in Flying Saucer Review's Beyond Condon special issue became an important source for later summaries. Some compressed catalogues turn the story into shadow beings entering homes and taking things, but the reported lights, shadow and household disturbances do not demonstrate an alien burglary or establish a common physical cause. The plate combines the brothers, the unresolved shadow and the distant red-lit object in one explicitly labelled composite of separate reported phases. No detailed craft or occupant anatomy is recoverable.
