Case description
On September 21, 1968, fisherman Juan Ballesta, reported as fifty-two, allegedly saw two unusual figures near the Cargol islet off L'Escala, Girona. Ballester Olmos's catalogue gives approximately 3 a.m., while the HUMCAT abstract uses 2 a.m. Both preserve the same central description rather than establishing separate incidents an hour apart.
Ballesta was in his boat, reportedly about ten metres from an object resembling a buoy. Two beings with yellowish faces and tight-fitting black clothing emerged from it on or beside the water. The published wording calls their faces frightening, but does not provide reliable dimensions, detailed facial anatomy, named clothing equipment or a technical description of the buoy-like object. It therefore does not justify adding conventional Grey features or elaborate underwater machinery.
The incident was reportedly communicated to the Civil Guard, who found no traces. Ballester Olmos cites contemporary newspapers, including Las Provincias of September 22 and El Noticiero Universal of September 23, plus a later Stendek discussion. HUMCAT supplies a short catalogue abstract. These references document the story's circulation, not a recovered vehicle or independently demonstrated underwater origin. Local retrospective accounts also mention a possible diver interpretation, which remains an alternative rather than an established identification. The plate depicts the reported emergence and fisherman while leaving the object's engineering and the figures' finer features approximate.
