Case description
A contemporary La Tribune report of 23 September 1968 describes several claims made around a Coaticook school on Saturday evening, 21 September. Shirley Green said that around 9:30 p.m. she saw a green face without nose, mouth or hair. Her companion Fabienne Champagne, however, described seeing trees move and interpreting the movement as a Martian; the newspaper does not make her an independent witness to the same detailed face. Earlier, a crowd had gathered around a claim of something on the school roof.
Police officers René Marcoux and Gilles Sauvageau investigated the roof lights and identified garage illumination reflected by a weather vane. Other observers described coloured, star-like flashes in the sky. Jacques Lessard gave a more structured description of a round orange, grey and green object with a ring, but the reports do not establish a single object seen in the same way by everyone. The crowd’s size should not be treated as the number confirming an alien.
Marks and a roughly forty-two-foot area of flattened grass in Mr Boivin’s field also became part of the story. Possible mowing or human activity was discussed, and Jean Dicaire regarded a trace as artificial. The newspaper does not establish a scorched landing site or a physical connection between the grass and the roof lights.
Later catalogues compressed these different observations into a craft-and-entity encounter. The original reporting preserves a more divided picture: a green-face claim, moving trees, varied lights, a police reflection explanation and disputed ground marks.
