Case description
Bill Schuening, a ranch foreman near Pendleton, Oregon, associated his sighting with 24 June 1947, the day of Kenneth Arnold’s much-publicized observation. The accounts differ materially. Contemporary 30 June 1947 newspaper coverage attributed to Schuening a formation of distant, high-flying objects whose shapes he could not distinguish; it did not describe occupants standing beneath a nearby craft.
In a 24 June 1987 East Oregonian interview, Schuening recalled hearing a tractor-like hum while driving his pickup through rolling farmland. Looking across a field approximately 200–300 feet away, he said he saw a silver saucer hovering five or six feet above the ground. Two very short figures in green suits and white helmets stood beneath it. They disappeared without his seeing how they entered, and the craft reportedly flew toward the Columbia River, circled and departed over the mountains.
That retrospective version underlies later humanoid catalogues and the reconstruction. The green colour refers to clothing, not documented skin. Published versions also disagree about direction and distance from Pendleton. The early formation report and later close encounter should not be flattened into one unchanged testimony. A separately attached Bakersfield, California, formation report is geographically different and cannot supply evidence for these occupants.
