Case description
Gay Harvey and a companion named Nino Perego, also rendered Porgio in later accounts, reportedly passed a strangely equipped pedestrian while driving toward Auckland about five miles north of Wairakei, New Zealand, in December 1968. The date is inconsistent: the recovered HUMCAT card types 13 December, about 22:45, while the imported ledger gives 18 December, around 22:30. The plate retains the month and explicitly flags both days.
The figure appeared to be an ordinary-sized man, approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet tall, wearing a shiny, loose blue-black one-piece suit tucked into shoes, gloves and a belt. Its most distinctive feature was a cylindrical helmet with a clear, square visor extending from ear to ear. It walked toward the car and seemed oblivious to the occupants. The motorists were in a hurry and did not stop, so there was no close examination or conversation.
HUMCAT identifies Anthony J. Brunt of the Auckland University UFO Research Group as investigator and cites a June 1969 UFO Newsletter, Flying Saucer Review 15(4), and Data-Net. These references provide a research trail but do not resolve the day conflict within the material recovered here. No spacecraft or distinctly nonhuman anatomy was reported. A person in unusual protective equipment remains an interpretation compatible with the visual description, whose actual identity was not established.
