An uncle and nephew were driving from Isabela toward San Juan on New Year’s Eve, 31 December 1968, when their headlights illuminated a pale object beside PR-2 near Vega Baja. APRO’s fuller account places the incident between 7:30 and 9 p.m., near Los Quemados. The uncle was eighty; his thirty-eight-year-old nephew, a dental mechanic and farmer, drove their Ford Cortina. Both requested anonymity. They described the stationary object as about the size of a European car, round like an inverted ashtray. Only the nephew saw a figure standing nearby, roughly ten feet from the passing car. He estimated its height at five feet, noticed an apparently toothless mouth and eyes that shone in the darkness like a cat’s. Frightened, he accelerated away. The uncle did not see the figure. Looking back, the uncle reportedly saw the object brighten blue-green and begin rising as its colour became reddish. He heard a faint sound, no louder than a car. The nephew saw no further departure details and later remained anxious. APRO representative Sebastián Robiou Lamarche recorded the account, including the uncle’s cataracts. These distinct observations support the reported sequence without making either man a witness to every feature; no photograph or physical evidence accompanies it.
