George Vas, his wife Milanka and their daughters Olga and Maria reported an encounter beside their caravan north of Childers before dawn on January 14, 1969. Barking and a humming sound drew their attention to a large luminous object, described as resembling a top hat or Mexican hat. Contemporary summaries estimated its width at about twenty-five metres and described changing colours.
Three enormous figures, allegedly about five metres tall, were said to descend in a smaller, similarly shaped object. Their bodies appeared bulky and indistinct rather than anatomically detailed, glowing violet and yellow. The family reported that the figures gathered roadside plants and sugarcane. A transparent-looking funnel or connecting feature was interpreted as transferring material toward the larger object. When one figure appeared to approach, George warned his daughters to run, but it instead stopped to collect another object from the ground.
After roughly ten minutes the figures reportedly returned and the object rose vertically. The account included sensations of hair standing on end and lingering humming. It was covered in Australian newspapers shortly afterward and later compiled by Australian UFO researchers and Flying Saucer Review. The extreme size and sample-transfer mechanism remain witness descriptions and interpretations; no physical specimen establishes them. The accompanying video discusses this specific Vas-family report within a compilation.
