Case description
Nathan Brown, a forty-six-year-old Māori man, reported this encounter while walking home north of Awanui around 1 a.m. on 22 February 1969 after drinking and playing darts with friends. A luminous haze behind roadside pampas bushes attracted his attention. Through a gap he saw two men seated beside a shallow ditch, backs toward the road, and a pale, white-haired young woman lying across it as though supported by an unseen board.
The woman wore a long white gown covering her feet, with her arms inside the garment and her eyes closed. The men appeared approximately five feet six inches tall, with brown skin, short brown hair, brown jackets and trousers. They did not answer Brown and turned their faces away as he tried to inspect them. When he stepped between them, he felt resistance across his stomach; reaching toward a man’s shoulder brought a similar unseen obstruction.
Frightened, Brown withdrew and later returned to find the light and figures gone. He reported marks and flattened grass the next morning, without recovered material establishing their origin. The detailed Auckland University UFO Group account supplies no visible craft: the haze’s source remained unseen. The plate keeps the barrier invisible, preserves the humanlike figures and avoids adding a technological shield or spacecraft.
