Punta Arenas, Chl being encounter — March 6, 1969

Osvaldo Domínguez reported a roadside encounter near Punta Arenas in Chile's Magallanes region on March 6, 1969. Accounts place it around 9:45–9:50 p.m. He was travelling in a van when its lights reportedly weakened and the vehicle stopped. He then noticed a small saucer-shaped object hovering nearby, estimated at about four metres across and only several metres from the van. According to the account, an opening appeared in the object and two shadowy, approximately human-height figures became visible. One moved toward the vehicle. Domínguez addressed it but received no spoken answer. The figure reportedly leaned over the right side of the van before returning to its companion and the craft. The object then rose vertically and departed very rapidly, without the engine noise the witness expected from an ordinary aircraft. Three scratches on the vehicle were subsequently associated with the figure's proximity. The narrative also connects the initial stop with a battery or electrical failure. These are reported observations and interpretations: the accessible case compilation does not supply a controlled mechanical examination demonstrating that the object caused the failure or marks. The combination of a stalled vehicle, a nearby object and a close approach by a figure is what gives the episode its close-encounter classification; that label does not identify their origin.
