Vicuna, Chile being encounter — June 1969

This truck encounter is located in the Vicuña area of Chile, on the route between Juntas and Huanta. The inherited Atlas entry dates it to June 1969, but the fuller account in UFO Chile issues 6–7 and subsequent vehicle-interference catalogues places it in June 1966. The original month and the conflicting years are preserved here rather than choosing an unsupported exact date. The named driver was Abel Aguirre Díaz, travelling with his brother-in-law Rosamel Díaz and two children, Silvia and Abdón. The account describes two small, brilliantly illuminated figures by the roadside. They appeared to jump or move aside and hide as the truck approached. A powerful light from the side then illuminated the vehicle. The driver reportedly lost movement in his left arm and leg, while another occupant felt a similar effect in a leg. The truck's engine and lights stopped. After the immobilising sensation eased, the occupants inspected the engine but did not find an obvious fault or a source for the light. The vehicle's lights eventually returned. No clearly structured craft was described in the recoverable narrative, so an illuminated object should not be converted into a detailed saucer. The episode combines family testimony, luminous figures and reported vehicle interference; its date conflict and lack of an independently documented mechanical cause remain central limitations.
