Case description
A fuller catalogue dates the Macaé report to 19 August 1969 at about 2:50 a.m., while the imported record retains only August. Luís Renato Matos, described as a teacher, was driving relatives from Araruama toward Campos in a 1951 Ford. Accounts vary between sister and sister-in-law; her two children and the adult passenger were reportedly asleep, leaving Matos as the active observer.
He noticed blue light, then an inverted-plate object estimated around twenty metres wide, tilted several metres above the ground. Rounding a bend near a stable, he saw five or six small, humanlike forms moving rapidly. Each carried a short rod or racket-like implement with a luminous orange, pear-shaped end, compared with heated metal. Matos accelerated away rather than stopping to communicate.
The car’s lights and engine allegedly failed after he passed Macaé, and later restarted. Retellings differ over whether the wait lasted until dawn. INTCAT cites Irene Granchi and an investigation attributed to F. Cleto Nunes, including an O Dia reference; the underlying statements have not been recovered here. The figures’ faces, clothes and exact relationship to the tilted object remain unspecified. Sleeping passengers should not be counted as independent corroboration.
