Tirau, NZ being encounter — 1969

Keith Basterfield’s “New Zealand Entity Reports,” published in the November 1982 MUFON UFO Journal, includes a brief report from Tirau in late 1969. The witness is described as a thirty-year-old woman. She noticed a bright yellow glow above a nearby hedge and observed dark areas set against that light. According to the summary, there were five black or dark shadows resembling the heads and shoulders of people. They moved slightly, with one appearing higher than the others. No arms or legs were visible. The woman then left the area. The description does not establish that the forms were independent beings, that they emerged from a vehicle, or that a solid craft was visible behind the light. The published entry cites UFO Research, Far North Queensland, rather than reproducing a signed witness statement or a detailed site investigation. It gives no precise day, exact time, duration, or facial description. Those missing details restrict reconstruction, particularly any attempt to assign a familiar alien appearance. The plate therefore shows the witness, hedge, yellow illumination, and five unresolved head-and-shoulder shadows. It does not add full bodies, a flying saucer, communication, or an abduction sequence.
