The abbreviated Hatch entry places three travellers northwest of Luleå on August 19, 1970. Fuller catalogues locate the event near Narken, sometimes rendered Marken, in Norrbotten, and name driver Assar Sandberg and his companions Olaf and Marta Mohlinder. They were travelling at night in rainy conditions when their headlights picked out an unusually small figure beside the road.
The figure was estimated at about one metre tall. It wore a gray rain cape or raincoat and headgear variously compared to a sou’wester or broad-brimmed helmet. As the vehicle approached, it raised both hands in front of its face. The witnesses reported a brilliant white flash and a noise like a gunshot. Sandberg slowed or braked, and they passed the figure. Contrary to the compressed database’s suggestion that it vanished, the fuller accounts say it was still standing there as they drove on.
INTCAT additionally records crackling on the radio and a later claim of damage to Sandberg’s right retina. The medical documentation was not recovered here, so those remain reported effects. The source trail leads through Åke Franzén’s FSR Case Histories account and a February 1971 Swedish newspaper report. No craft accompanies the roadside figure. Its obscured face should not be replaced by invented alien anatomy, and the varying spellings and vehicle descriptions remain source differences rather than new locations or witnesses.
Retells the Narken/Marken roadside-figure report. The reported later eye injury is not independently documented here. No craft is described, and fuller accounts leave the figure standing beside the road as the witnesses drive on. Specific roadside event within larger Norrbotten1970–72 series. No craft. Eye injury claimed later without recovered medical record; figure did not vanish in fuller account. Names/locality spellings vary.
