Case description
Radio technician Gilbert Camus reported an encounter on the D30 between Trénal and Condamine in the Jura, France, on March 5, 1971, around 1:10 a.m. Driving his Peugeot on a freezing, moonlit night, he first interpreted a distant glow as village lighting before realizing that it lay off the road in a meadow.
He described eight bluish rectangular lights with a metallic dome above them. As he passed, three large dark figures appeared near the road bank, while additional figures were visible farther into the field. Their heads were described as broad and lobed; the catalogue's animal comparisons should not be mistaken for a precise biological identification.
Camus subsequently reported bluish light entering the car, a temporary change in its behavior, and marks on clothing. Jean Tyrode investigated, and later retellings differ on some timing and route details. The plate depicts the roadside phase without converting those reported effects into a demonstrated mechanism or reproducing a verified photograph.
