Case description
Pierrette Debofle reported an unusual object and small figure at a chalk quarry near Dannes on Pentecost Sunday, May 30, 1971. Around 2:05 p.m., while gathering grass for rabbits behind her house, she noticed movement in the normally deserted quarry. Accounts disagree whether she first noticed a childlike figure or a dark, domed object resembling an upturned basin.
The figure was short, with a bulky chest and round head darker than its body, apparently surrounded by a faint bright halo. It moved with an odd waddling or floating gait and bent toward the ground. The item it seemed to collect was interpreted as chalk because of the location. Debofle compared the object with a quarry bulldozer, estimating roughly three metres across. She said the figure passed underneath and disappeared upward, followed by a flash and rapid silent departure.
Her husband and neighbour subsequently visited the quarry but found no traces. René Bazin investigated, with publication in LDLN Contact Lecteurs in March 1972; René Pacaut later interviewed her. Reported viewing distances vary from 300 to 800 metres, and hovering-height descriptions also conflict. These limitations qualify the anatomical and sampling details. The imported physical-trace tags do not represent a verified trace discovery.
