Bents Basin, Aust being encounter — June 4, 1972

Six young people at Bents Basin on June 4, 1972, reported that their car stopped while they observed a disc-shaped object on a nearby hill. The object was estimated at about twenty-five feet across, supported on three legs and emitting pulsating red light and a humming sound. The group associated its pulses with headaches. They eventually restarted the vehicle, but an engine fire then complicated their attempt to leave. Two members went to obtain help. After returning, the witnesses noticed a large shadow near the vehicle and took cover in the grass. Two of the group described an eight-to-ten-foot figure with broad shoulders, a glossy rounded helmet-like head and pointed hands. Its lower legs were not clearly visible, and it appeared to glide rather than walk. The figure reportedly vanished while the witnesses watched. The group waited before retreating; the object was no longer visible when they checked the hill. Australian investigators Bill Chalker and David Buching are cited in the subsequent catalogue account. The car trouble, headaches and figure belong to the witnesses’ reported sequence, but the retrieved summaries do not establish a demonstrated mechanism linking them. The plate retains the distinctive helmeted, broad-shouldered appearance and distant tripod craft while depicting the group safely observing rather than dramatizing the vehicle fire.
