North / Santa Barbara, CA being encounter — November 4, 1972

The preserved Hatch entry assigns this account to about 21:00 on 4 November 1972, north of Santa Barbara, California. Its entire event description concerns an apparently false party scene, a house and guests, followed by the claim that the house had burned down six weeks earlier. It supplies no named witness or detailed sequence explaining how that discrepancy was discovered. The wording may indicate a claimed anomalous scene or an interpretation imposed by the compiler; it does not establish what the observers physically saw, how many guests were present, or whether anyone spoke or touched anything. The entry contains no described spacecraft, nonhuman anatomy, abduction or missing-time account. Humanlike classification should not turn the unspecified party guests into demonstrated extraterrestrials. Hatch cites Michael Lindemann’s 1991 collection UFOs and the Alien Presence: Six Viewpoints. The compact record is therefore a lead to that source, not a substitute for its full context. No address, fire report, witness statement or independent confirmation of the six-week claim was recovered in this review. The accompanying plate uses archive context rather than inventing a house, party, principal witness or explanation for the reported contradiction.
