Case description
An account attributed to investigator Jean Ferguson describes nine-year-old Mario Mercier alone on an outdoor skating rink at La Sarre on the sunny morning of November 28, 1972. Around 10:30 he allegedly saw a spherical white cloud descend beside an extension of the family house, about 700 feet away. The cloud was estimated at seven feet across.
Three short, stocky figures reportedly emerged. They had square shoulders, black clothing, and square black helmets, giving them a distinctly blocklike appearance. One carried a small square black container, filled it with snow, and walked toward the chicken house. As it seemed about to open the door, Mario shouted and tried to hide in the hockey net. The figure turned back. He then saw it and another figure climb into the cloud, which rose vertically and departed rapidly.
The summary also describes square tracks in the snow and a small soot-blackened patch of grass, subsequently seen by family members. It claims vegetation took two years to recover, but supplies no laboratory analysis. Later versions vary in the dimensions of that mark and the boy’s age. The principal encounter remains Mario’s reported observation; family observations of alleged traces should not be mistaken for additional witnesses to the figures themselves.
