Case description
The expanded Alijó–Vila Real account names Serge Lisboa,38, his wife Maria,38, and Maria Marmela Santos Costa,21, travelling toward Porto late one September 1973 evening. Near Tua they reportedly heard humming and observed a small white luminous lens-shaped object with a transparent dome flashing red. After passing Alijó they again heard rhythmic humming, and Lisboa noticed engine difficulties, although no object was then visible.
About five kilometres from Vila Real, a bright green cylindrical object appeared on the road. Lisboa braked. Two red flashing points beside the road allegedly proved to be antenna tips on the helmets of two figures lying on their backs. Their approximately five-foot bodies wore shiny, lead-like suits, gloves, spherical helmets with rectangular windows, and small backpacks. The car passed close by. The figures then rose rigidly without moving their limbs and disappeared above it.
HUMCAT credits J. Fernandes and a 1977 magazine account. Its scan specifies 20-inch antennas, not the 20-foot mistranscription. It gives late September at 10:30 p.m. and three adults, unlike imported 20 September, 10:30 a.m. and two witnesses. The plate uses the nighttime roadside phase, preserving these conflicts. The earlier lens and later cylinder are not assumed identical.
