Case description
Nine people, including four high-school students, reportedly camped on El Yunque Mountain, Puerto Rico, overnight on October 20–21,1973 while looking for UFOs. David Webb’s revised 1976 catalogue summarizes the incident from Néstor Rigau’s 1974 Awareness reports. That closer reporting chain differs in several details from later, more dramatic mountain-legend retellings.
Around midnight, after hearing sounds, Heriberto Ramos and Efraín Arroyo moved down a slope and said they saw four figures on a path. One held a small device with lights. They described the figures at roughly fifteen to twenty feet away as five to six feet tall, with long arms, large eyes, pointed noses and pointed ears. The figures moved readily up and down and withdrew when illuminated by a flashlight.
Two sizes of footprints and broken branches were reportedly noticed the following morning, with nightmares among later experiences. The retrieved summary does not establish an extraordinary source for those traces or describe a spacecraft at the campsite. Seeking UFOs does not itself prove successful contact. The illustration therefore shows the campers, named observers and four approximate figures among vegetation, without importing an unreported saucer or combining later versions’ creature counts into this account.
