Case description
At approximately 9 p.m. on November 12, 1973, Mrs Long was turning into the driveway of friends who lived on a farm near Lynchburg, Ohio, when a round orange object approached her car. It reportedly stopped above the vehicle, and the car’s lights dimmed as it hovered there.
Frightened, she screamed. The object immediately disappeared. In the aftermath she discovered that the pet cat which had been travelling inside the car was missing. In the account attributed to her telephone report to investigator Leonard Stringfield, she was certain that the windows had been closed. The later video retelling describes a slightly open window but says the opening was too small for the cat to leave through it.
The compressed catalogue also raises a question about missing time, but supplies no clock readings, measured duration or remembered intervening events. Mrs Long did not describe seeing anyone enter the car or watching the cat move into the object. The reported sequence ends with the vanished light, the vehicle disturbance and the missing pet.
Stringfield’s Situation Red is the source cited by the original Atlas ledger; INTCAT explicitly names Mrs Long and cites his witness telephone call. That chronology and the ledger both give 1973. The linked Alien Zoos programme tells the same distinctive car-and-cat story but gives the year as 1955.
