Case description

Ray Landrum, a twenty-year-old motorist, reported an encounter on FM 1470 east of Poteet during November 1973. The fuller chronological account places it at approximately 6:45 p.m. on November 14, about three kilometres outside town. The imported Hatch record instead gives November 18 at 6:50 p.m.; the discrepancy remains unresolved. Landrum said an unfamiliar object was hovering low over the road. Tall humanoid figures were visible behind one of its windows. Later summaries describe their appearance as greenish, but supply little reliable detail about their faces, clothing, or number. The figures were reportedly inside the object, rather than standing across the roadway. Landrum continued driving instead of stopping. A liquid allegedly fell from the object onto his vehicle and damaged the paint on its bonnet. David Webb’s compilation of the 1973 humanoid reports also records examination of the damage and collection of residue by highway-patrol personnel; no conclusive laboratory identification is established in the available account. The report concerns a close roadside observation and a claimed material effect. It does not describe Landrum being taken aboard, and the catalogue’s suggestion that the figures wanted him to stop should be distinguished from an observed physical obstruction.
