Case description

A motorist near Warneton on the French–Belgian border reportedly experienced simultaneous engine, light and radio trouble at about 8:40 p.m. in January 1974. Hatch dates the event January 17; the fuller Bigorne-derived account gives January 7. He saw a helmet-shaped object standing on three legs in a field, approximately one hundred and fifty metres away, with orange illumination above and white light below. Two beings approached while a third remained by the craft. Both had long arms and grey, hairless, inverted-pear-shaped heads with round eyes, a small nose and a narrow mouth. Their equipment differed: the shorter figure had a round faceplate and rings around its torso, while the taller wore a transparent boxlike helmet, metallic overalls, gloves, pointed boots and a belt with a luminous disc. At close range the witness felt a slight shock behind his head and heard a low modulated sound. The beings returned, boarded, and the object ascended rapidly. Jean-Marie Bigorne’s investigation was published through LDLN and Flying Saucer Review, then summarized in HUMCAT and later books. Another motorist reportedly claimed to have seen the object and occupants afterward; this is a separate corroboration claim, not a second person watching every close detail. The detailed helmet and facial descriptions should be preserved alongside the date conflict, without treating the generic Grey catalogue label as an exact portrait.
