Case description
The Larry Hatch catalogue places this report on State Road 57 north-northeast of Evansville, Indiana, on February 9, 1974, at about 9 p.m. Its compressed account describes four people in a car, the vehicle being lifted, loss of consciousness, a humanlike figure addressing a witness by name, and more than two hours that could not be accounted for.
The bibliography points to Francis Ridge's Regional Encounters. Ridge's published account of a Highway 57 encounter instead uses May 9, 1974, and describes a man and six companions returning from vacuum-cleaner sales work. The setting and several reported effects resemble the Hatch entry, but the differing date and number of occupants prevent a secure identification of the two entries as the same episode.
The Atlas retains the imported February date while preserving this conflict. The image represents the catalogue's car-and-light report; the vehicle, occupants, and appearance of the light are illustrative. The digest does not provide a complete account of where the occupants went or how they returned.
