Case description
Residents of Vesta, Virginia reported unusual activity on the evening of March 1, 1974, around 8 p.m. The fuller catalogue describes three observers noticing a hillside illuminated by bright yellow light. A red, luminous object, estimated at roughly Volkswagen size, reportedly rose above it, hovered about three hundred feet up and made angular turns before heading south toward Stuart.
Billy Wayne Plasters and Richard N. Clifton then drove a truck toward the site. From an illuminated patch of ground, they reportedly saw a large, tall, heavily built humanlike silhouette approaching. They called out without receiving an answer and retreated in their truck. This was not a detailed facial observation, and the fuller wording does not support replacing the silhouette with a small, anatomically described alien.
Charred vegetation covering a substantial area was reported the next day, while other residents mentioned lights and unexplained sounds. HUMCAT attributes the account to Nancy Lindsay of The Stuart Enterprise; the ledger also cites George Fawcett's investigation and estimates six witnesses overall. Those references do not mean six people independently saw every phase. The plate explicitly combines the earlier red object with the later figure encounter, preserving the limited identification and unverified cause of the vegetation damage.
